What is a network administrator?


A network administrator supports the company's internal servers in the following ways:
  • Install and maintain network and hardware systems
  • Diagnose and correct connection problems
  • Ensures that users can only access the files for which they are authorized
  • Monitor the network to maintain speed and availability
  • Manages network security systems
  • Repair hardware and configure software to maintain operating systems

Depending on the size of the company, network administrators may be responsible for supporting desktop computers and other network devices. Network administrators must have a thorough knowledge of switches, routers and network communications.
